How do I care for an eye injury or proptosed (bulging) eyeball?
Immediate actions — first 60 seconds
1. Prevent the dog from scratching or rubbing the eye using an Elizabethan collar or by wrapping paws.
Flush away loose dirt with sterile saline solution. If the eyeball is protruding from the socket, cover it with gauze soaked in warm sterile saline. Do NOT attempt to push the eyeball back in. Transport immediately.
