What should I do if my dog is unresponsive or unconscious?
Immediate actions — first 60 seconds
1. Airway: open the mouth, pull the tongue forward, clear visible vomit or fluid. 2. Breathing: look for chest movement, feel for breath for 10 seconds. 3. Circulation: feel for a femoral pulse inside the upper inner thigh.
If no pulse or breathing is detected, place the dog on its right side on a flat surface. Perform chest compressions over the widest part of the chest (100-120 per minute). Deliver 2 rescue breaths into the nose for every 30 compressions. Transport immediately to an emergency vet.
