What if a bird or small animal is bleeding from a broken feather (Blood Feather)?
Immediate actions — first 60 seconds
1. Locate the base of the bleeding, immature feather shaft near the skin.
Grasp the base of the broken feather shaft firmly with pliers or tweezers and pull straight out in the direction of growth. Apply direct pressure or cornstarch to stop bleeding.
